Description: My
intent in this piece was to symbolically depict that moment in Christian theology
when Jesus absorbed the sins of the world. His body is contorted and deformed
by all the sins, desires, prayers, and butalities that mankind would inflict
upon him and upon each other in his name.
The cross emerges from a sea of blood. Jesus is nailed to a cross composed
of the universe while the three nails themselves represent the trinity and
are enlarged to emphisize the pain. This painting pays homage to that moment
when Jesus comforted himself by reciting the twenty-second psalm which begins,
"Oh Father oh Father, why has thou forsaken me...."
